HOW TO BE HAPPY
Happiness is sometimes something hard to obtain, now it goes without saying you don't get something for nothing. Happiness isn't something that you just let in or that just comes. In essence you make you happy, you are the only person with this power.
You may say a certain sound is annoying you but this is simply because you are letting it, if you can let the sound in and just let it pass through you as hard as it may sound you will become much calmer. Now the best way I have discovered to calm the mind is meditation and chanting, many things can be relaxing, and by relaxing I mean relaxing not lazing. Work, Meditation, Writing. Many things can calm the mind down. I believe it is essential to have a calm mind to stay happy.
Somebody annoys you? Is it this persons fault they annoy you? NO!! now if this person annoys you whether they are doing it on purpose or not, it will upset your mental state.. but it is because you are not in a decent mental state that they annoy you. You can accept things and just live without making everything seem hostile.
Unfortunately controlling the mind to be happy is not an easy task and it really does need you to start looking at yourself a lot more. When you get annoyed or upset step back and ask yourself how this is happening, then ask yourself how you can fix it, now I don't mean go and smack the person who is making you annoyed in the nose so they shut up, I mean an internal fix, take some deep breaths and focus your mind on positive thoughts.
A good way to be happy is to just be positive, also if you do things for others it is very fulfilling and it has always been said what you give out you get back(Karma).
Do not resort to external things for your happiness. Why do certain people make you happy? Because you let them, not because they are special. Why is it that one of your friends is made happy by you and they make you happy, but that friends friend makes your friend happy but not you? Because you make let them annoy you, its that simple.
Now it has been tested(As from "The Art Of Happiness") that if you Said to yourself, I wish I was [X] everyday then you will be unhappy, but if you said I'm glad I'm not [x] then you will appreciate life more. Be more accepting of life and don't take things for granted as much. Many people are born with disabilities, what about third world countries and countries at war? You really have the life of luxury! Be grateful for the life you live.
Mind is over matter, so if you can say to yourself I will be happy, I will accept this person, then you will, the mind is the big tool for your happiness!
Never expect anything from anybody or anywhere, this will lead to your own demise. You can only rely on yourself for happiness and this is fact. Love yourself, meet yourself, look at yourself.. this is the only way.
If somebody gets angry at you or bullies you, let them win, it may make you upset but it is better than getting angry and gaining the bad Karma from this situation, if you let someone win you will gain back good Karma (this is very hard even I find this hard to do).
I think for now this is all I can say about Happiness, I may be back with more.
I hope this was insightful for some of you and may you all be happy!

JAI BOLO PURI DHAAM KI

Jagannath Puri, is the abode of Lord Jagannath or Purushotham, the Lord of the Universe or the Supreme Personality of the Universe. The name Jagannath (Lord of the Universe) is a combination of the Sanskrit words Jagat (Universe) and Nath (Lord of). Jagannath Puri Dham or Jagannath Puri or even Puri as it is called, is situated at Puri Districts in the State of Orissa (India). It is one of the four Holy Kshetras of India including temples at Rameshwaram, Dwaraka, Badrinath and Puri. The Annual Rathayatra festival is the high point of all the Festivals celebrated and has been attracting lakhs of devotees and pilgrims since time immemorial. To see the Lord on the Chariot on the Rathayatra day is to secure salvation from the cycles of birth and death. The Temple The main temple structure is 65m (214 feet) high and is built on elevated ground, making it look more imposing. The vast temple complex comprises an area of 10.7 acres and is enclosed by two rectangular walls. The outer enclosure is called Meghanada Prachira, 200m (665 ft) by 192m (640 ft). The walls are 6m (20 feet) high. The inner wall is called Kurmabedha, 126m (420 ft) by 95m (315 ft). The walls were built during the 15th or 16th century. There is a wheel on top of the Jagannath Temple made of an alloy of eight metals (asta-dhatu). It is called the Nila Chakra (Blue Wheel), and is 3.5m (11 ft 8 in) high with a circumference of about 11m (36 ft). Every day, a different flag is tied to a mast attached to the Nila Chakra. Every Ekadasi, a lamp is lit on top of the temple near the wheel. Gates in Temple: There are four gates in East, South, West and North sides to enter the temple. 1. SINGHA-DWAR (East Gate or Lions Gate) 2. GHOTAK-DWAR (South gate or Horse Gate) 3. BAGHA-DWAR (West Gate or Tiger Gate) 4. HATI DWAR (North Gate or Elephant Gate) Arun Stambha (Sun Pillar): It is situated just in front of Lion's gate. It is also believed that out of 22 steps two steps lying below stone of about 34' height on top of this pillar the charioteer of Arun (Sun) is sealing with folded hand towards Lord Jagannath. In 18th century the king Gajapati Dibyasingh dev brought this pillar from Konark. The Deities The central forms of Jagannath, Balabhadra and the goddess Subhadra constitute the trinity of deities sitting on the bejewelled platform in the inner sanctum. Lord balabhadra is the elder brother, Lord Jagannath is Younger brother and devi Subhadra is youngest sister. Lord Jagannath, the symbol of universal love and brotherhood is worshipped in the Temple along with Balabhadra, Subhadra, Sudarshan, Madhaba, Sridevi and Bhudevi on the Ratnabedi or the bejewelled platform. Main Attraction A famous festival related to the Jagannath temple is the Ratha Yatra, or chariot festival, which occurs yearly in June or July. During the Rath Yatra Festival, the images of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are placed in mammoth chariots or 'raths', the largest of which is 14 meters (46 feet) high and has 16 wheels, each more than two meters (seven feet) in diameter, which are then drawn along Grand Road to the Gundecha Temple, a few kilometers away. After they have stayed in that temple for 9 days, the deities again ride the chariots back to their home temple. Mahaprasada Maha-prasada is pure vegetarian spiritual food offered to Lord Jagannath. Just by eating this maha-prasada one makes great spiritual advancement. Everyday, fifty-six varieties of prasada are offered to Lord Jagannath. The preparations are made traditionally and no onion, garlic, chillies or many varieties of vegetables (considered alien) are not used. These Offerings after being made to Lord Jagannath are in turn again offered to Goddess Bimala Devi in the temple precincts and then becomes Mahaprasadam. This Mahaprasadam is considered very efficacious for spiritual liberation. One should respectfully honor the Mahaprasadam sitting on the floor. A Little History According to recently discovered copper plates from the Ganga dynasty, the construction of the Jagannath temple was initiated by the ruler of Kalinga, Anantavarman Chodaganga Dev. The Jagamohana and the Vimana portions of the temple were built during his reign (1078 - 1148 CE). However it was only in the year 1174 CE that the Orissan ruler Ananga Bhima Deva rebuild the temple to give a shape in which it stands today.

Indian Students Brutally Attacked in Australia, Subject to Racism, Raises Questions

Four students from India who had gone to study in Australia were assaulted by a group of Australian teenagers this week. Among the victims was Shravan Kumar, 25, who is in a critical condition and fighting for his life in the hospital. “Doctors are still unsure if Kumar will survive and if he does, he will lose his vision or memory”, Kumar’s friend, Sinivas Gandhi, said.
The four Indians were first subject to racist comments and were told to go back to India, following which they were brutally attacked by the boys who used screwdriver as a weapon and were allegedly drunk. Three of the four Indians are now in a better condition but Kumar still faces the fear of death.
When Sinivas approached the Police for help, they were asked to take care of their own security. The Police also said that they “can’t go on protecting each and everyone”.
The attack, which was racially motivated, could have serious repercussions on the $3.5 million Australian education industry. Although the External Affairs minister of India, S M Krishna, has asked Australia to ensure the safety of Indian students, the behaviour of Australians towards Indians is at stake. Indians have been subject to racism in Australia more often in the past, but nothing this serious had happened earlier. Even on the cricket field, the Indian players have faced racial comments.
The incident did not stop here. The house of the victimized Indians was burgled, raising even more questions.
Violent attacks on Indians have been growing over the last few years and have raised serious concern for aspiring students who wish to study in Australia.
We, Indians, have a tradition wherein, we treat our guests as being equal to God, also known as, atithi devo bhava. But the treatment of Indians abroad has raised the question that are Indians still being subject to racism? Is India being treated as a downtrodden community?
With advancing technology and development around the world, the global community is expected to think at a higher level. The fact that Indians are leaving their mark everywhere proves that Indians are a part of the active global community. When there are people like Barack Obama treating Indians and the Indian community in the USA as fellow citizens, there are people like the ones who assaulted Indians on the basis of race.
With such acts being committed in various parts of the world, Indians abroad are feeling threatened. Anti-racism, which is a part of India’s foreign policy, is being offended.
But the question still prevails, shall we keep mum at such acts or should the youth get together in protest against such acts. Indians, who are the third largest minority group in Australia, form an important part of its Gross Domestic Product, contributing to the corporate industries, travel as well as education. So, is the treatment of Indians in Australia justified, or do we need to raise our voices to make sure that the world hears us?
Is it time to get suppressed yet again, or are we to be treated as one amongst the league of equals?

LIFE IN A HACKING MACHINE

There's a reason why Lifehacker is at the top of this list, and it boils down to one important thing: making your life more productive, easier, and most importantly, more fun. Computer geekery dominates much of the blog's content, but not in the over-your-head kind of way. Editor Gina Trapani takes technology out of the proverbial box, takes it apart, shows us how it works, and puts it all back together again. Then she sends us off feeling better about ourselves because we learned something new. Lifehacker is a must-read by everyone interested in improving their lives through technology (and if you're not trying to be a more productive person than you have some real serious issues you may want to address). While many of us let technology control our lives, Lifehacker gives us the knowledge and resources to let us control technology in the best ways possible.
HELP HAITI
A friend of mine has had some uneasy nights of rest wrestling what to do about the earthquake victims in Haiti. God has led him to start a blog and put things in motion toward taking a team there. I have done a promo video for him called “Pray, Give, Go”. I pray that God will use you to whatever capacity He determines in blessing these people of a tragic past and present with God’s love and caring. We are all made in His image and for His purpose.
How To Get Parents Involved In Their Kids’ Lives
In preparation for tomorrow’s Youth Ministry Conversation with Tim Schmoyer on the topic of parental involvement in the lives of their teenagers I thought I would jot down some of my own thoughts on this subject. This was a topic that Tim had put up for an idea to post a while back and now seemed like the right time.
My first thought is tied to the Word of God in the book of Dueteronomy 6 beginning in verse 4 and going through 9
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
This is a portion of Scripture referred to as the Shema. It is a prayer that is read through two times daily in the life of Jewish prayer services. It also serves as a great reminder of whose role it is to disciple teenagers. Parents remain the Scriptural leaders of their homes and therefore need to be greatly involved in the lives of their teenagers.
This passage of Scripture gives many different scenarios in our daily comings and goings where we should be talking with our children about God. It is not just enough to talk about it but also for parents to model this lifestyle. While the importance of parental involvement is spoken of in the Bible it is echoed in today’s society. Of the more than 250,000 teenagers surveyed by USA Weekend 70% identified their parents as the most important influence in their lives.
I believe that one of the most important roles that I can play as a youth pastor is that of a parent-discipler. Yes, the time that I spend with teenagers directly is valuable. But understanding that the influence a parent has on a teenager greatly overshadows my influence makes me that much more cognizant of where I need to be focusing my energy.
When I identify that the vast majority of students I work with have parents who are not mature Christian adults themselves I see where I must work the hardest. From issues of common-sense parenting to spiritual growth, I need to do whatever I can to help equip parents with the tools they need to grow. If I can mentor parents I know that the cycle will recur with parents mentoring their teenagers. Whatever I can do to communicate the importance to parents of this is what I will do. The major role that I play is in setting expectation levels for parents and teenagers. Children generally live according to our expectations of them. If I can help parents understand and form healthy spiritual expectations for their teenagers I have done my job.
George Barna has done some research in the area of family and faith and found that 85% of parents with children under the age of 13 believe they have the primary responsibility of teaching their children about spiritual matters, and 96 % believe they have the primary responsibility of teaching their children values. However, the majority of parents do not spend any time during a typical week discussing spiritual matters with their children.
Questions that can be asked of parents in regards to how they model their faith:
- Do you love God with all your heart, soul, and mind?
- Do you seek first His kingdom?
- Do you spend regular time with God?
- Do you view your children as gifts from God?
- Are you encouraging your children?
- Are you spending sufficient time with your children?
- Are you a good steward of the gifts, opportunities, and resources God has entrusted to you?
- What is your involvement in caring and serving others?
These questions help me shape the approach that I can take with them as we talk more about how they can best be discipled. One thing that I have learned over the last 9 years of being a parent myself is that there are things in our life that matter most. My relationship with God, My relationship with my family – those are the things that come first. Whatever I can do to help parents reprioritize their lives to focus on involvement with the teenagers will pay off tremendously in the future legacy of each family that I can be involved in.
On a practical note, in our student ministry we find many ways to connect parents in volunteering within the student ministry. Whether they serve as small group leaders, serve food at our meal times, prepare desserts to serve after our small groups, help us set up and clean up at Impact, or even prepare mailings for upcoming events – we understand that parents can be some of the best leaders that we have in our student ministry because they have a great interest in the spiritual lives of the teenagers.
How to use Facebook for ministry
Private Messaging
Last week I blogged about how email is old-school and teens no longer use it as a primary means of communication for various reasons. However, private messaging on social networking sites is definitely one of the top ways they talk online now, so I use it as a replacement for email. If I need to send a message to a student, I send it on Facebook instead of email.
Youth Group “group”
With our youth group Facebook group, all the students can share pictures, videos, cool links and exchange comments throughout the week. It’s an easy central hub of communication throughout the week. I use our Facebook group mostly for sending mass private messages to everyone in the group about upcoming news and announcements they should be aware of.
Event RSVP
Through our Facebook group, I sometimes create events and send invitations all the youth group kids to RSVP as “attending,” “not attending” or “maybe attending.” Even though we have sign-ups on our website, too, when people join an event in Facebook, it shows up in all their friends’ news feed and gives the event some free publicity to other students who otherwise might not know about it. Of course, they can easily check out more details of the event and sign-up to attend, too, if they’d like.
News application
Creating a Facebook application that streams your latest youth group news straight to student’s profiles is a bit nerdier, but I tried to make the process as simple and easy-to-understand in this tutorial. Basically, it’s nothing more than an RSS reader for you youth group news inside of Facebook for students. This puts announcements right where they’ll see it and where their friends will see it, too.
See what kids are up to during the week
Although all these other things are nice and all, the main thing I use Facebook for is to keep up with kids lives through the week. I love seeing what they’re up to, what they’re thinking, how they respond to different things their friends post, the kinds of content they post themselves, and all the joking around that takes place. It’s fun.
Innovative Earth Friendly Ideas To Upcycle Lego Bricks
ITS THE TIME TO FREECYCLE NOT RECYCLE
Once you've posted the availability of items, you could get dozens of responses from people near you who need them. Then, you put it on your curb and it's gone!
I worked with one woman who had a ceiling fan and aquarium to get rid of. She was ready to pay for a salvage company to pick them up. I steered her toward freecycling instead, and she got 20 responses in one day. And she was able to get baby clothes that she needed from a mom whose child had outgrown them.
I have gotten rid of our child's crayons and magic markers doing this -- someone had a day-care business and needed them."
